# Test before you go live

The preview, test questions, saved tests, workflow modes and versions, so customers only meet a Dazza you trust.

*2 min read · Updated 26 Oct 2026 · 6 sections*

Everything you can do for customers, you can try first. None of it counts towards your plan.

## The preview

The chat beside **Agent** talks to your draft: unpublished settings, workflows in Test and your latest knowledge. Ask it what a customer would.

## Test questions

During setup, Dazza writes eight questions a real visitor would type and answers them. Each shows how it went:

- **Answered**, from your knowledge.
- **Handed over**, to your team, when that’s the right call.
- **No answer**, a gap to fill.

Questions without an answer are asked again as more of your site is read.

## Tests

**Tests**, in the sidebar, is a saved suite of up to 100 tests. Run it whenever you change something.

There are two kinds:

- **A question:** one customer message.
- **A customer with a goal:** a scenario. A model plays that customer for up to four messages, for example “You ordered a duvet two weeks ago, it hasn’t arrived, and you’re getting impatient.”

For each test, you can set:

- **A good answer says:** the key facts, in your own words. Leave it empty and any helpful answer that doesn’t guess will pass.
- **What should happen:** **Anything helpful**, **Answers it**, **Hands over** or **Uses a workflow or tool**.

### Run them

**Run** on the **Draft**, which includes workflows and tools in Test, or on **Live**, the published version, which only uses Live ones. The results sit side by side.

Each result is Pass or Fail, with a one-line reason. Click one to see the transcript and the sources Dazza used.

Tests whose result differs between draft and live are highlighted: *Check them before you publish*.

Nothing runs for real. No conversation is created, and no workflow or tool actually runs.

### Suggest tests

**Suggest tests** adds:

- The test questions from setup.
- Questions customers asked that Dazza couldn’t answer.
- Questions written from your knowledge, with the fact to expect.
- A scenario where the customer wants a person.

## Test a question against your knowledge

In **Knowledge**, *Test a question* shows which passages Dazza would use to answer, so you can see why it says what it says.

## Workflow modes

Each workflow is **Off**, **Test** or **Live**. In Test it only runs in your preview, so you can try it end to end. Draft runs in **Tests** include it too, without running it for real. Workflows that call your system also have **Send a test**.

[MCP tools](https://dazza.io/help/connections) have the same three modes.

## Versions

Publishing creates a numbered version with who published it. If something isn’t right, change the draft and publish again.
