Connect Confluence

Let Dazza answer from your Confluence spaces and pages, kept in sync, with an Atlassian API token.

If your support playbook lives in Confluence, Dazza can answer from it. You choose the spaces or pages, and Dazza keeps them in sync.

Connecting apps is on the Growth plan and above. Dazza works with Confluence Cloud (yourteam.atlassian.net).

Create an API token

Dazza reads Confluence as one Atlassian account, so it sees what that account can see. A dedicated account with access to only the right spaces works best.

  1. Signed in as that account, open id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens.
  2. Choose Create API token with scopes, give it a name and an expiry date, and pick Confluence.
  3. Tick read:space:confluence and read:page:confluence, then create it.
  4. Copy the token. Atlassian only shows it once.

A classic API token (Create API token) works too.

Atlassian tokens expire, after a year at most. When one does, Dazza shows Needs attention on the Confluence card; create a new token and paste it there.

Connect it in Dazza

In Knowledge, open Connected and, under Confluence, enter:

  • your Confluence address, such as yourteam.atlassian.net;
  • the account’s email address;
  • the API token.

Dazza checks them with Atlassian straight away. The token is encrypted and never shown again.

Choose what Dazza reads

Dazza lists your spaces. Tick a whole space, or choose Choose pages and tick pages. A page brings the pages under it. Then press Import.

What Dazza keeps

Headings, paragraphs, lists, task lists, tables, code and links are kept. Info, note, warning and tip panels are kept as notes, and expand sections become a heading with their contents. Tables of contents, page trees, Jira issues and pictures are left out.

Keeping it in sync

Dazza checks Confluence on your Keep up to date schedule, or when you press Sync now. Only pages with a new version are read again.

  • A new page in a space you picked, or under a page you picked, is added.
  • A page that’s deleted, archived or moved out stops being used.
  • If you remove a page in Sources, it stays out until you pick it again.

Citations and which source wins

Answers cite the Confluence page, and the citation opens it. Customers can only open pages your site allows anonymous access to.

Confluence pages count as your own words, like Q&As and pasted text, so they win when they disagree with your website. Only connect pages a customer may be told about.

If something goes wrong

  • Atlassian didn’t accept that email and API token. Check the email belongs to the account that made the token, and that the token hasn’t expired.
  • There’s no Confluence at that address. Use the address you see when you open Confluence, ending atlassian.net.
  • No spaces are listed. The account can’t see any. Give it access in Confluence, then try again.
