Connect Discord

Let people ask Dazza questions in your Discord server with the /ask command, and what Dazza can’t see there.

Communities often gather on Discord. With Dazza connected, anyone in your server can type /ask and a question, and Dazza answers in the channel.

Discord is on Growth and above.

How it works

  • Someone types /ask and their question. The question shows in the channel straight away, and Dazza’s answer follows it.
  • Each person’s questions in a channel are one conversation in your inbox.
  • Your team can reply from the inbox. The reply is posted in the same channel and mentions the person.
  • /ask also works in a direct message with the app.

What Dazza can’t see

Dazza only hears /ask. Reading every message in a channel needs Discord’s Gateway, a connection that has to stay open all the time. Dazza runs on serverless hosting, which can’t keep one open, so:

  • ordinary messages in your server don’t reach Dazza;
  • replies your team types in Discord don’t show in the inbox, and don’t take over from Dazza. Reply from the inbox instead.

Connect Discord

You need to be a workspace admin in Dazza, and able to manage your Discord server.

  1. Open the Discord Developer Portal and choose New Application. Give it your business’s name.
  2. Open Bot and press Reset Token. Copy the token.
  3. In Dazza, open Channels, choose Discord, paste the token and press Connect Discord.
  4. Press Add to your server, pick your server and authorise it.

Dazza does the rest with the token: it reads your application’s ID and public key, adds the /ask command and sets the Interactions Endpoint URL. Discord checks the address straight away. The token is encrypted.

The install link asks for two permissions: View Channels and Send Messages. Dazza needs them to post replies after the 15 minutes an /ask stays open.

Security

Discord signs every interaction with your application’s key (Ed25519). Dazza checks the signature and refuses anything else.

If something isn’t working

  • “Discord didn’t take the address.” In the Developer Portal → General Information, paste the Interactions Endpoint URL shown on the Discord connection and save.
  • /ask doesn’t appear. Commands can take a minute to show. Check the app was added to the server with the install link.
  • A reply from the inbox fails. The app needs to be in the server, with permission to post in that channel.
