Connect Google Drive

Let Dazza answer from your Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and files, kept in sync, or add a single public Doc by its link.

3 MIN READUPDATED 7 SECTIONS

Policies, price lists and how-tos often live in Google Drive. Dazza can read them and keep up as they change.

Connecting apps is on the Growth plan and above.

Connect Google Drive

  1. In Knowledge, open Connected and choose Connect Google Drive.
  2. Sign in with the Google account whose Drive holds your documents.
  3. Allow Dazza to see your Google Drive files. Dazza only reads them; it never changes, moves or shares anything.

You come back to Dazza, ready to choose what it reads.

Choose what Dazza reads

Browse My Drive, Shared with me or your shared drives, and tick:

  • Folders. Everything inside, sub-folders included, and anything added later.
  • Files. One at a time.

Then press Import. Files are read in the background and show as ready in Sources.

What Dazza reads

File How it’s read
Google Docs As text, keeping headings, lists, tables and links
Google Sheets Every visible tab, as a table with its header row
Google Slides The text on each slide
PDFs and Word files Like an uploaded file, up to 10 MB
Text, Markdown and CSV files As they are

Pictures, hidden tabs and other kinds of file are left out.

Keeping it in sync

Dazza checks Drive on your Keep up to date schedule, or when you press Sync now. Only files changed since the last check are read again.

  • A new file in a folder you picked is added.
  • A file you delete, move out of the folder, or lose access to stops being used.
  • If you remove a file in Sources, it stays out until you pick it again.

Add a public Doc without connecting

For one file shared as Anyone with the link, you don’t need to connect Drive. Under Google Drive, paste its link and choose Add file (once Drive is connected, it’s under More options). It works with Docs, Sheets (the first tab) and Slides, and is read again on your schedule.

If the file isn’t shared that way, Dazza says so. Change its sharing in Google, or connect Drive instead.

Citations and which source wins

Answers cite the file, and the citation opens it in Google. Customers can only open files shared with them, such as ones shared with anyone with the link.

Drive files count as your own words, like Q&As and pasted text, so they win when they disagree with your website. Only pick files a customer may be told about.

If something goes wrong

  • Google access was removed or has expired. Someone removed Dazza from the Google account, or changed its password. Choose Connect again. Files already read keep answering until it’s fixed.
  • Dazza needs permission to see your Drive files. The Drive box was unticked on Google’s screen. Connect again and leave it ticked.
  • A file couldn’t be read. The reason is on the Google Drive card. A scanned PDF has no text to read; very large exports are refused by Google.

To disconnect, choose Disconnect. Dazza tells Google it no longer needs access, and the files it read leave your knowledge.
